Music Censorship

Censorship is quite possibly one of the most controversial topics related to music. There are so many advocates today that petition for censorship. However it seems that most artists believe that censorship is a mistake, and that it robs them of their artistic license. After all, who can truly say what art is and what is inappropriate?

What do you think about censorship? Does it upset you when you are listening to your favorite song on the radio and bleeps interrupt the rhythm? Or are you a parent who appreciates censorship because you want to shield your children from curse words?

I will give you my opinion right here – I think that censorship is great and that it does not harm any people in any way. If censorship were to be applied to political articles and things like that, there would obviously be a problem. But bleeping curse words so young people and adults alike don't have to hear those words, really isn't a problem to me. If you want to hear the unedited version, go out and buy the album with a parental advisory sticker on the cover.

This brings me to my next point – do you believe that there should be parental advisory stickers on albums? Who determines what albums get this stamp anyway? It is the RIAA. I think that the sticker is a good warning system to let you know what you are buying. I am sure many kids are upset by this because they are not allowed to buy explicit cds until they are older. However my position is that censorship is positive. If you disagree, please feel free to say so.
