The Gear of Metallica
So as a self described Metallica addict I can say I am still loyal to the band after 25 long years of heavy metal riffs and thundering explosion. Members have come and gone. One incredible bassist died before he should have. We still miss you Cliff.
And each time I tell someone that I have seen Metallica 16 times in concert I usually get one response from somebody. There is always that guy I’ll call him Dude. Dude will say…. I saw Def Leppard in 1986 you don’t hear me still talking about them.
The point is Def Leppard as great as they may have been in the 80’s, they were never on the same plateau of Metallica. And I never wanted to get inked with a Def Leppard tatoo . But when I went for my first tattoo. There I was seated in a chair getting the scary guy tattoo linked on my right shoulder. That is loyalty my musical friends.
Now , many of the original members of Metallica have changed and come up from impossible circumstances and climbed to a mottled fame despite their impossible stop, which is what makes them so intriguing to me. Their sound, however, is why what they choose to play so intriguing and as the band gets ready to release Death Magnetic in a couple of months, the chance to look at what they play seemed right.
James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett both like to thrash to ESP guitars. And I personally like to play Enter Sandman on my Roland JC 120. Lars is considered one of the best drummers in rock and no one can consider themselves the best if they don’t use Zildjian Cymbals. He also tends to use Tama drums and Remo drumheads. At least that is what he has said in interviews in the past. Now as far as Robert Trujillo he is a beast on the bass. He is a welcome addition to the boys. He has a signature bass by Zon Guitars that he is known to play fingerless.
This is a good solid list of some very awesome equipment. And when the equipment is set up properly, learned properly and researched, what you get is a great deal of control over your art. So beef it up Metallica style and start your collection one piece at a time.
Until next time…I’ll see you under the speakers……
